A Livermore Valley Favorite

Aug 2019 • Friends

Not sure how we discovered Big White House/John Evan Cellars a few years ago. It was definitely a recommendation from someone - probably random. I joined their club on the spot and it is now in my short list of favorite wineries in Livermore. It’s a small lot (truly small lot) winery tucked away at the south end of Greenville on the East side of valley- rather secluded which adds to the charm. I’ve had some lovely picnics and celebration gatherings on the deck there.

Now for the wine. If I’m with a group we always start with their Peche bubbly. Lest you think it’s a chick wine, I’ve literally not known a man who hasn’t gone back for a second flute or glass. It’s also my ‘go to’ hostess gift and I start every home party with it. Currently you can only get it at the winery. While I enjoy many of their wines, I love their El Capitan, Debonaire, Talking Bull, 2015 Das Risiko Syrah (winner of the most innovative Wine and Food pairing at the Livermore Valley 2019 Taste Our Terroir), and 2 new wines from the assistant wine maker, Jessica Carroll, a Riesling (grapes sourced from Santa Lucia Highlands & Sonoma) and a Pinot Noir (Grapes sourced from La Estancia in Salinas Valley). Wine labels are all painted by John Evan’s sister, Marion - and they are beautiful. If you’re looking for a lovely intimate wine tasting experience that celebrates the history and delight of small wineries, I highly recommend Big White House/John Evan Cellars in Livermore Valley.

GREAT small winery!

Dec 2018 • Couples

What a fun little winery!

The wines were great and the wine maker knows his stuff. He was very enjoyable to talk with. We also spent quite a bit of time talking with with Jessie, the assistant wine maker. She was fantastic! Knowledgeable, fun and very very nice.

We brought our lunch, sat outside (they have heaters) and sipped great wine. We would certainly go back!

We have tasted here several times because of its proximity to 3 Steves. What a find! We really enjoy there blends. The winemaker is quite engaging and friendly. We have a signed label print.

Enjoyable Wine Tasting at Big White House, Livermore

Sep 2016 • Couples

We have enjoyed wine tasting at this casual and fun winery. Big White House makes two labels of wine. One is the Big White House Label and their premium label John Evan Cellars. We have also gone to some of the events.
